DG:The
Collection
DG (The Democracy of Gray) names a couture collection of 42 garments in shades
of gray, the color of our democracy today. All elements are stitched by hand
from protective materials like vinyl, foam padding and window screen. Such apparel
may confirm, alter or conceal identity. Colored warning labels, numbered 1 to
5, assist in coordinatiiong an appropriate outfit for any occasion.
Art as Inquiry
The Call: I pose questions in public spaces and invite passers-by to write
or draw their answers.
The Response: Back in the studio, I tabulate
the survey results. These findings may take visual form as mixed media sculpture
to share with a gallery audience.
The
Feminine Matrix
The matrix form evokes a womb or nest, that place where life begins and to which
we return for nourishment and regeneration. The matrices depicted in these photographs
are life-size sculptures of permeable or transparent materials.
Public
File
Joining the national debate surrounding The Patriot Act, this exhibition imagines
some consequences of clipping personal liberties in pursuit of public safety.
Public File asks, "are we making informed choices or is the body politic
asleep at the wheel?"
